I would like to introduce Dis-bud Mum this time.

This flower is shipped from ALL4MUM Growers’ Cooperative of the JA Aichi Minami in Aichi prefecture.
Although Dis-bud Mums do not have many multi-colored varieties, this variety – “Souls”, is bi-colored with pink and yellow. One of its charms is that the graduation of the color changes, dependent upon blooming seasons.

At OTA market, “Souls” is shipped only from this Cooperative, and only one grower in this Cooperative produces this variety. It is, therefore, a rare variety.

This Cooperative also cultivates another Dis-bud Mum variety and ships to OTA market. The variety, known as “Miyabi”, has the same flower shape and size as “Souls”. However, the difference in color distinguishes the two varieties.  A mutation in the gene during the vegetative period of “Souls” results in bi-colored petals in orange and yellow. you can easily find it from the picture of “Miyabi”.

From late April, our receipt of shipment will increase and the quality will get at higher grades.
Mother’s Day is coming soon, and I expect the demand on the flower will increase.

Today I would like to introduce Simplex of the Gloriosa lily, shipped from the Misato Growers Cooperative. Simplex started to be at market from around 2005. The number of its bulbs has been gradually increasing and now becomes enough to maintain stable shipment.

Among the Gloriosa lily varieties, “Southern Wind” and “Misato Red” are descendants of “Rothschildiana”. Simplex, however, is close to the wild origin of Gloriosa, brightly colored with fluorescent yellow, and supple stems.

The growers are making effort to produce more bulbs and aiming to ship continuously with a higher quality.

I’d like to introduce Leucocoryne (also known as the glory-of-the sun) from Yusa horticulture center of Shonai Midori Growers Cooperative, in Yamagata prefecture.

Although it says “Growers Cooperative”, there is only one grower, Mr. Suda, who produces the flower in the Cooperative. Since he got an opportunity to take over the bulbs of L. Coquimbensis from Miyake Nursery in Chiba prefecture, he has been propagating and improving it by himself, and now he is shipping his original variety to our market.

 

 

After the standard variety L.Coquimbensis began to be shipped from the last year-end, the number of varieties has increased since the beginning of March.

Among them, I would like to introduce the varieties available recently are ‘’Premian’’ and ‘’Nakamidori’’. Premian is purple pink and Nakamidori has bi-colored variety with the center in green and the outside in white. (Literally, Naka means center and Midori means green in Japanese. That is the reason it is called Nakamidori.)

Shipping amount will peak in early April. I hope the demand will expand on the flower. Thank you.

Today, I would like to introduce Campanula (also known as the Bell flower).

The Itoshima Growers Cooperative is one of shippers of Campanula. Two growers in the Cooperative ship them to our auction market from January, as per every year. Its line-up consists of 6 varieties, Champion pink, Champion purple, and 4 colors of Chime (small flower).

The characteristics of Campanula from Itoshima are that they ship flowers one-third in bloom with fully-bloomed top flowers. As they are harvested after they have already begun to bloom, there can be found some sweet nectar spots on the flower petals. Though, flower quality is trusted because these spots are not caused by any damage.

We receive Campanula from Itoshima until around the end of the Mother’s Day.

This year’s first auction started from 7:00 on Friday, January 5, 2018.

At the fore-end, our CEO, Mr. Isomura greeted buyers and the representative of Ota Shinwa-kai, Yoshichu followed who produced the “treasure ships”.

In Japan, we believe seven gods deliver good fortune by treasure ships. At the flower market, treasure ships – filled with various kinds of flowers – symbolize a rich harvest of flowers and prosperity of business.

Every year, the first auction starts from auction of treasure ships.
